Bay Canh isletBay Canh island, actually two separate islands joined in the middle by a wide sand dune,is protected on its north coast by a mangrove forest and coral reefs. This island is one of the major sea turtle nesting sites in Con Dao National Park and so is protection Department trained in turtle conservation. Mother turtles usually come ashore at night to lay their eggs. |
Cau islet (Forest Protection Station of Cau islet)East of Bay Canh island, and the only island other than Con Son that has permanent fresh water, is Cau island. This island/s other natural resources include an abundance of fest fruit, sheltered caves that are inhabited by Edible Nest Swiftlets (the Park staff carefully harvest the nests each year),and nesting turtles. |
Dam Tre bay, Con Son islandBeyond the airport at the North end of Con Son Island, is fascinating Bai Dam Tre. A shallow, nearly-enclosed lagoon lined with mangrove forest, Dam Tre offers good possibilities for nature exploration for the more adventurous visitor. |
Ong Dung beach, Con Son islandBai Ong Dung is an attractive rocky bay on the North Western coast of Con Son Island, a one hour walk through rainforest from the National Park headquarters. The site of one of the Park' s Forest Proection stations, it has interesting coral about 300m off shore and long rocky beach that extends all the way to the headlands at low tides. On the way to Ong Dung you will pass Ma Thien Lanh Bridge, built by prisoners under French occupation. |
